Dec 15th, 1955 we left our Yarloop farm to attend my sister's graduation ceremony in Perth. (Teacher)
We were the first to see the horific accident. My father put the worst injured into our Fiat - I cleared enough debri to let the car get through - even one boys amputated leg. I was 17 then, but will never forget what I saw.
Dad drove first to Armadale hospital, but they couldn't help, so continued into Perth. My mother & I waited at a close-by farm house.
Dad kept in contact with some of the lads. One was very depressed, so Dad arranged that Douglas Bader (when he was next in Perth) to talk to him & hopefully encourage him so that he could still acheive a lot - even with his amputation.
Sincerely, gavin Sutherland.
