About CBERS Consultancy

The philosophy

CBERS Consultancy is grounded in the same broad principles that underpinned the previous service - in particular the protocols for non-disclosure of client information. As stated by Br Gerry Faulkner in the original CBERSS Terms of Reference, the service is "functionally independent from the Congregation of Christian Brothers, but financially accountable to it".

The consultant

CBERS Consultancy is coordinated by Dr Philippa White, an accredited Social Worker and Mental Health Service Provider (Medicare Australia Provider# 2939681K). Prior to establishing CBERS Consultancy in Fremantle, Philippa was employed as a counsellor at CBERSS' Subiaco office during its last two years of operation. Her original involvement with the agency was as principal researcher on CBERSS' submission to the Senate Inquiry into Children in Institutional Care. She also participated in CBERSS' analysis of client needs in 2002, and worked with a reference group of stakeholders to develop a model of service for the new Consultancy. Philippa completed her doctorate in Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Western Australia.

The location

The CBERS Consultancy office is located in the old 'Cleopatra Hotel', close to public transport and has ample street-front parking. The office is located in the bustling 'West End' of Fremantle, near to the historic Round House, and is surrounded by shops, pubs and cafes. The new location is also within walking distance of Fremantle wharf, where the 'Welcome Walls' and the Child Migrant memorial statue stand in recognition of the many children who were sent from the UK and Malta under the child migration schemes.
